Warm March Continues Spring Trends

In a trend that has persisted into spring planting season, March brought growing regions of Idaho more cause for drought concern. With warmer than average temperatures and less than average precipitation, the generally dry spring continued throughout much of the state. All southern wheat growing regions touched near record highs in the March 26th – 28th period, while south-central and southwest Idaho grew their annual precipitation deficit to nearly 2” below yearly averages. On the positive side, however, parts of northern Idaho received enough late February and early March precipitation to return the region to nearly 5” of annual precipitation – right in line with historic averages.
