Bread in a Bag

Bread in a Bag is a fun, hands-on activity that teaches students about the nutrition of wheat and provides students with the unique learning experience of making their own wheat food product from scratch. The wheat food product – bread, pretzel, pizza crust, or tortilla – can be baked in the school’s cafeteria or at home while students learn the history of wheat, its nutritional importance, and the economic benefits of Idaho’s wheat industry brings to the state.

The Bread in a Bag program has been made available by the wheat growers of Idaho for more than 25 years and now has more than 10,000 students participating each year.  The Idaho Wheat Commission provides each teacher with a Teacher’s Guide with detailed instructions on how to conduct the activity, a Student Guide for each child, which includes 7 recipes and fun facts about wheat.
